Abstract

Learning mathematics is a fundamental issue during academic training processes, which is why it is an indispensable and compulsory subject at different educational levels. The purpose of the study presented is to identify the degree of motivation as well as the motivational factors present in the learning of mathematics. The research is by its quantitative nature, descriptive, with a non-experimental cross-sectional design. An intentional sampling was carried out in which 330 active students of the Unified General Baccalaureate (BGU) from a private school in Guayaquil, Ecuador were selected. A contentive test of 32 affirmative prepositions presented on a 5-point Likert scale was applied. The results indicate that students are highly motivated towards learning mathematics and that BGU first-year students are those with the highest degree of motivation. Likewise, the data indicate that women have a higher level of motivation.
